    OT: Daniel 11:36-, Daniel 12
    NT: I John 4
    Ps: Psalm 123
    Pr: Proverbs 29:2-4

    Today´s notable verse:

We love because he first loved us.

    I John 4:19 (NIV)

Only seven words, yet they contain such depth. “We love because he first loved us.” Without God’s love for us, exemplified in Christ, we would now know the true meaning of love. Without God’s love for us, demonstrated in Christ, we would not have the freedom from sin and guilt nor the ability to love. Without God’s love for us, carried out through Christ, we would have no reason to love.

    NT: I John 2:18-29, I John 3:1-6
    Ps: Psalm 121
    Pr: Proverbs 28:27-28

    Today´s notable verse:

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

    I John 3:1 (NIV)

We used to sing a hymn in church:

Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us
Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us
that we should be called the sons of God
that we should be called the sons of God

What a wonderful thought: the Father lavishing (what a great description!) His love on us, such that we might be considered His sons!

    OT: Daniel 6
    NT: II Peter 3
    Ps: Psalm 119:129-152
    Pr: Proverbs 28:21-22

    Today´s notable verse:

8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

    II Peter 3:8-9 (NIV)

Today, while driving to Cincinnati to take home our neices who were visiting over the short week, I had the opportunity to help teach the older, 10-year-old neice this principle. She shared with me that she had prayed to God that she might have a baby – not her own; she wants to adopt. So, I got the opportunity to explain to her about praying to God, and telling Him our desires – and also about how God answers prayers, but sometimes we don’t understand His timing. I look forward to having these kinds of conversations with our own children one day, too!

The One Year Bible Blog´s comments for today, in which we are asked for our favorite verse from Psalm 119. Mine are:

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.

    Psalm 119:18 (NIV)

You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.

    Psalm 119:114 (NIV)

Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.

    Psalm 119:165 (NIV)

    OT: Daniel 5
    NT: II Peter 2
    Ps: Psalm 119:113-128
    Pr: Proverbs 28:19-20

    Today´s notable verse:

He who works his land will have abundant food, but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

    Proverbs 28:19 (NIV)

This proverb is a great reminder that we are responsible to work hard in whatever position God has placed us, and that we should not pursue “get rich quick” schemes. The former pursuit represents a desire to see God glorified; the latter pursuit represents a desire for selfish gain.

    Today´s notable verse:

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
