God has always been concerned with the welfare of the less fortunate, and He has charged His followers with caring for the needs of the needy and advocating for those unable to advocate for themselves - because all human life is equally sacred and equally valuable. It is the same principle found in the Declaration of Independence, and upon which the founders of this country based their argument for severance from tyranny:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..."
