Being single and living alone does not go well with wine - especially since a full glass with dinner is almost more than enough for my tastes. I have turned more bottles of cab and zin into expensive vinegar than I care to admit. Well, along came this post from the Corktease blog, introducing me to vacuum wine stoppers, particularly those from Vacuvin.
I recently bought the Vacuvin Concerto vacuum pump, and so far it has worked great and is worth its weight in gold - or, at least, worth its cost in wine.
Chip… vac u vin sucks!!! What you really REALLY need to get is to check out http://www.wineenthusiast.com and get yourself a winekeeper system. Great stuff for us wine drinkers! It uses argon inert gas to prevent oxidation.
Well, I’ve got a couple of bottles stoppered with the Vacuvin. I’ll let you know what I think after I’ve gotten through them and can decide how well the Vacuvin works.
So far, though, I like it.
The question is, though: when my normal price range is $10-15 per bottle, is it really worth it that much for me to use a more expensive system (and Argon)?
Maybe, when I’ve got the wallet to stock the heavy-hitters…
