Where is Roca Blanca?
Roca Blanca Missions Base is located on beautiful beachfront property along the southwestern coast of Mexico in the state of Oaxaca. It is located 200 miles SE of Acapulco (6 hours by car), 175 miles SW of Oaxaca City (7 hours by car) and 40 minutes West of Puerto Escondido. The climate is consistently hot and very tropical due to its proximity to the equator. From late June through September each year, the region experiences a significant amount of rainfall. Travel is not highly recommended during these months due to flooding. However, from November through June the vegetation and climate are comparable with some of the most beautiful locations on Earth.

About Roca Blanca
Roca Blanca (White Rock) Base is located on the Pacific Coast of Southern Mexico in the small fishing village of Cacalote, in the state of Oaxaca. The base is 45 minutes north of the airport in Puerto Escondido and 6 hours south of Acapulco. The weather is generally hot all year round. There is a dry season from November to June and a rainy season from July to October. The primary language spoken is Spanish; however, the base does work with the Mixteco and Chatino Indians who speak their own languages. Be sensitive to the fact that Mexican, Mixteco and Chatino cultures differ from one another and form those in the United States. Catholicism is very predominant in the area and is often mixed with witchcraft and idolatry. This area is very poor with the majority of people's income coming from working small plots of land.
History of Roca Blanca
The seed for a work on the coast of Oaxaca was planted in Duane Kershner when we as there in 1972. He received a word from the Lord from Matthew 4:15-16 ( "Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, along the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles - the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned" NIV) that there would be a light in the darkness. After receiving this word, he and two other men began preaching village-to-village along the coast. Relationships were established with the nationals, and there was a knitting of hearts that occurred. In 1983, Duane and his wife Sue, while pastoring New Covenant Church in Larned, Kansas, began bringing short-term mission teams to the area to work with the churches. A great need developed for a Bible school to train pastors. During a trip in 1989, God revealed the location where the Bible school was to be established: the present site of the Roca Blanca base. In July 1990, Duane and Sue along with a team of graduates from Victory World Missions Training Center arrived at the base to begin work.
