The Journal Guide -- CB 2000.07.07
This guide is by no means complete. It may never be, but I'll do my best to keep it updated. NOTE: This guide applies *only* to the "Old Site" entries (anything from 2000 or earlier).

People that appear in the journal:

The following people appear in the journal. They are listed, roughly, in order of appearance. To create at least a modest semblance of privacy, I have changed the names of everyone I mention in the journal.

Amanda: a freshman at the Woods. She has a bad shoulder, and has a horse at the Woods. She and I have become good friends over the course of the past few months. She is probably one of my best friends at the Woods.

Sarah: a freshman at the Woods. A one-time romantic interest, she was my date for my fraternity's 2000 Winter formal. She was also the cause for much stress and trepidation over the course of the winter months, mainly because she would not confirm nor deny any romantic interest in me. She once dated Nick.

Ariel: a freshman at Valparaiso. She is the girlfriend of one of my brothers, and a really nice girl.

Nicole: a senior at ISU. She is one of my best friends, and was my date for my fraternity's 1999 Spring formal. We both spent summer 1999 in Terre Haute, and spent a lot of time hanging out that summer.

Heather: a sophomore at the Woods. She is another of my friends there.

Ashley: a freshman at ISU. She was the "make-up girl" for Pirates. She took it upon herself to be responsible for making up my eyes, since I couldn't do it myself. We have become friends since the show, and hang out occasionally.

Nancy: a junior at the Woods. She is another good friend of mine. Since she is an RA and perpetually on duty, I don't see her as much anymore.

Angela: a recent graduate of ISU. She is one of Nicole's sorority sisters, and another pretty good friend of mine.

Natalie: a sophomore at the Woods. She is also Amanda's sister. I didn't get to know her until recently, but being a fellow Star Wars fan, she's pretty cool :)

Erica (NOTE: Not in any way related to my ex-girlfriend, whose real name is Erica): a junior at the Woods. We have been friends for a couple of years. She used to come to all of my fraternity's parties, until she hooked up with Mike.

Mike: a junior TKE at Wabash, and Erica's boyfriend. I got to know him pretty well during Pirates. Although I had met him previously, we didn't really get to become friends until Pirates.

Nick: a senior TKE at Wabash. We became friends during the Pirates of Penzance. I had never met him before the show, but I would say that he is now one of my good friends.

Natasha: a junior at Rose-Hulman. Yet another good friend of mine. Since she is also in the co-op program, I don't see her very often.

Andrea: a senior at ISU, and another of my best friends. I've known her for almost three years now. I used to have a huge thing for her, but that was a long time ago.

Erin: a freshman at the Woods, and Amanda's roommate. She is one of my fraternity's calendar girls, so I've gotten to know her pretty well over the course of the year. She was also one of the pirates in the musical.

Rene: a junior at the Woods, and the girlfriend of one of my fraternity brothers. She is Erin's and Alice's Big Sis. She was one of the daughters in the musical.

Alice: a freshman at the Woods. Another of my fellow pirates in the musical.

Nora: a senior at the Woods, and another good friend of mine. We share a passion for coffee.

Elisa: a junior at the Woods, and the girlfriend of another of my fraternity brothers. She turns 21 the day after my birthday this summer, so we will be celebrating in style...

Edith: a senior at the Woods, and the girlfriend of yet another of my fraternity brothers. Actually, they are practically engaged. She was also a daughter in the musical, to be exact, the daughter that I "hooked up" with.

Places that appear in the journal:

The following places appear in the journal. They are listed, roughly, in the order that they appear, or in the order I remember them.

Rose-Hulman (Rose): Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. A small, private engineering school in Terre Haute, IN. The college I attend, and from which I will graduate in May 2000.

The Woods (SMWC): St. Mary-of-the-Woods Collge. a small, all-female catholic college just west of Terre Haute. Important most recently because I performed in the recent production of The Pirates of Penzance put on by the school's theater department.

ISU: Indiana State University. A medium-sized state school, also located in Terre Haute.

The Pike House: where I live while at school. The Pi Kappa Alpha house lies on twenty-odd acres of land. The "campus" consists of the main house (which houses about 40 brothers), the annex (which houses about 13 brothers), the cottage (which houses 4 brothers), the gym, the party house, and various other unused buildings. The main house will be up for inclusion on the national historic registry in April 2000, and used to serve as the county's children's home. I currently live in the annex, where I have lived for the past three and a half years.

Terre Haute, IN: A fairly large city in western Indiana, located on I-70 just east of Illinois.

Shelbyville, IN: A large town/small city near Indianapolis. My hometown, where I lived for 17 years.

St. Leonard, MD: A small town in southern Maryland. Where my parents now live.

Kalamazoo, MI: A city of about 90,000 in southwestern Michigan, where I currently live and work. Of note, it is a college town, complete with a Division I school (Western Michigan), and the 25-year-reigning Men's Division III Tennis champion Kalamazoo College.

Events that appear in the journal:

The following events appear in the journal. Currently, they are listed here in no particular order, other than the order in which I remember to include them.

The Pirates of Penzance: musical/operetta put on by the theater department at the Woods. I auditioned, and was given the role of Samuel, a challenging role, due to the vocal range required for the solo work of the role. The other male roles were filled by TKE's from Wabash who also auditioned, many of whom I have become good friends with during the course of the show.

Co-op: a five year college program, in which the student graduates with a year and a half of actual work experience related to his major. I co-op'ed with a company in Indianapolis, Cornerstone Controls.
