The Future

The Real World: Kalamazoo

After graduation from college, I accepted a job offer in Kalamazoo, MI, where I worked as an engineer in the Pharmaceutical controls and Computer System Validation industry. As I began to adjust to my new home, city, and state, I slowly started to get involved. My first venture outside of work was participation with the Kalamazoo Civic Theater.

I also found a church home - the Kalamazoo Valley Family Church. I took the "Get a Grip on the Basics" class, which is a precursor to membership. The church also started a Young Adult / 20-something group, called NFocus.

NFocus

(The following is woefully outdated. I may or may not ever update it...)

Kurt and Kathy Kurt and Kathy are the pastors in charge of NFocus. They are a great couple, and have a real calling for our age group. Of particular interest to me, they spent time in Guatemala as missionaries. Kathy is also once again pregnant - congratulations!

Tako and Jen Tako and Jen are lay leaders in charge of NFocus planning and activities. They also are a great couple that we all look up to. Jen and Tako are originally from South Africa.

Brett Brett is one of the first guys I met in the group. He has a theater degree from Western, and, until recently, worked for Borgess. He plays bass guitar in the worship band, and also plays in another band, Under the Son. We are both coffee nerds and computer geeks.

Scott I met Scott just a little over a month ago, and already consider him to be one of my good friends. He currently owns his own construction company, but may very soon be going back to school, either to continue his previous English degree work, or to pursue something else. Scott has a dream of starting a skateboard ministry among the Kalamazoo youth.

Brian I met Brian right before the now-famous Eli concert, and really got a chance to know him that night; we have been good friends ever since. He is a science and social studies teacher at the middle school level, and is also my new tennis partner.

Cosmas Cosmas is a really cool guy, and a good friend. He is originally from Kenya, and is one of the most God-loving, Word-quoting, power-praying guys I know. He, along with is sister Irene, is a student at Western; he is studying Information Systems.

Andi and Connie Aren't they cute together? Andi is a fellow engineer, and Connie is still in school (Western). I met them both when I started going to KVFC, and love both of them.

Angie I met Angie a little over a month ago, and already consider her to be a very dear friend. She works in Occupational Therapy, and has a neat little apartment that I got to help paint.

Mark and KJ I met Mark and KarieJo only a few weeks ago. Can you tell that they're engaged? They're both great, and I look forward to getting to know them better.

Beth Beth is also a student at Western. I don't know her that well yet, but she's also a lot of fun.

Andy Andy is a student at KVCC, and is the youngest one of the group. He's a lot of fun to hang out with.

Tim and Trish Tim and T-Rex have been dating for a while now, and I *think*, maybe, they met through NFocus. Tim is big into mountain biking, and is interested in going down to Indiana for my fraternity's Mountain Bike Challenge. The two of them are helping organize NFocus services.

Dawn I met Dawn right around the time Erica and I broke up, and in the past few weeks, have had a chance to really get to know her. Already, she's become a close friend.

Alexis Alexis is one of the first people I met at the church. She is a great person, and a lot of fun to hang out with. She is currently in Florida for school, but will be back up here with us in November.
